As the second biannual conference of regional governors wrapped up yesterday, the regional heads were called to enhance security and fight impunity. The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji, presided over the conference, which assessed the country’s security situation, particularly in the North-West, South-West, and Far North regions.
In light of the rising acts of violence, the MINAT called for unwavering firmness. He particularly criticized the activities of certain political parties, NGOs, and associations that do not comply with current laws. Governors were also instructed to intensify the hunt for highway robbers and to tackle urban crime.
Furthermore, the minister strongly condemned femicide that has seen a significant increase in 2024 promising that the perpetrators of these barbaric acts would be pursued with the utmost severity.
To maintain public order and preserve social peace, Paul Atanga Nji announced new measures to regulate the activities of Pentecostal churches and NGOs stating that these organizations must comply with the existing legislation promptly, or they will face penalties.
The MINAT laid emphasis that these measures are not intended to restrict public freedoms, but rather to ensure respect for the institutions of the Republic and to uphold state authority.
