Samuel Eto’o’s extensive interview with RFI is causing quite a stir online. Indeed, the president of the cameroonian Football Federation had a conversation with Christophe Boisbouvier, a journalist at RFI, on Thursday. During the interview, he revisited not only his relationship with the cameroonian government regarding the FECAFOOT but also his personal ambitions. On this latter point, Samuel Eto’o asserts that people attribute motives to him. “People assign me intentions everywhere I go be it in Cameroon, the CAF, at FIFA, and yet I haven’t said anything,” declared Samuel Eto’o to Christophe Boisbouvier.

For the former Indomitable Lion, these individuals hide behind his name to achieve their objectives. “People want to hide behind me to fulfill their own ambitions,” Eto’o added. However, the former Inter Milan striker believes he has always achieved his goals. “I wanted to be president of FECAFOOT, and that’s what I am.

It should be noted that some people speculated that Samuel Eto’o had aspirations for the cameroonian presidency and that he was motivated by the example of George Weah, the former Liberian footballer who became the president of Liberia rumours he outrightly dismissed. However, others have suggested that he is targeting positions at CAF or FIFA, and Samuel Eto’o has neither confirmed nor denied these speculations.
