Maurice Kamto warns of ID card fraud ahead of 2025 presidential elections

Maurice Kamto, national president of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), has accused the CPDM, in collaboration with the National Police and ELECAM, of allegedly tampering with national ID cards to facilitate large-scale fraud in the 2025 presidential elections.

In a statement he issued on Thursday, titled “A STATEMENT ON THE TRAFFICKING OF NATIONAL IDENTITY CARDS IN CONNECTION WITH THE UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION,” Maurice Kamto suggested that the CPDM is preparing for large-scale fraud in the upcoming elections.

Below is the full statement as posted on his social media page :

A STATEMENT ON THE TRAFFICKING OF NATIONAL ID CARDS IN CONNECTION WITH THE UPCOMING PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS.

Thanks to the vigilance of Cameroonians, we are aware of a video that has gone viral on social networks. This scandalous video shows an individual, probably a CPDM activist judging by his attire, sitting in front of a large stock of national identity cards.

The comments accompanying the video mention the name of Ali Bachir, a former member of parliament for the Vina in Adamaoua, as the person who, behind the scenes, is allegedly setting up this electoral fraud scheme with the national police and ELECAM authorities.

This video, which is not isolated evidence of the massive electoral fraud being prepared by the CPDM regime, does not augur well for the forthcoming presidential elections.
These frauds in the making herald difficult times for our country, remember in 2018, we denounced the fake polls, the fake international observers from Transparency International, the trafficking of electoral cards, the exclusion of our representatives from many polling stations, the buying of votes and other forms of electoral corruption, the falsification of reports (procès verbaux), and so on, and in the end, as you experienced live, the Constitutional Council stole victory from us.

For the 2025 presidential election, the People of Change through Alternance will no longer tolerate this barbaric electoral fraud, wherever it may come from.

These acts of provocation of the Cameroonian people, these criminal acts against the rule of law and democracy, must be stopped immediately. They can no longer go unpunished. I also invite the General Delegate for National Security, who I hope has recovered from the shocks of the broken roads, to explain these recurring scandals concerning national identity cards in connection with the forthcoming elections.
In light of the above-mentioned video, the responsibility of the national police is now engaged for everything that will happen during the next presidential elections in connection with electoral fraud based on the use of the national identity card.
The Director General of ELECAM must explain to Cameroonians why all the alleged cases of electoral fraud always involve his organisation and the ruling CPDM party.

Yet once again, this party is at the heart of the preparations for electoral fraud. The obligation of loyalty of its national president, Mr Paul BIYA, to the Republic requires him to explain the repeated involvement of his party in these endemic electoral frauds. The determined reaction of the people of Massagam, in the Division of Noun, Western Region, in April 2024 following the discovery of clandestine voter registration and national identity card production kits at the home of a CPDM militant should lead the National President of this party to expressly disassociate himself from all electoral fraud currently being perpetrated for his benefit. At the risk of being held personally liable in the event of a pre- or post-electoral crisis in our country.
The judicial authorities on their part, must urgently open an enquiry into this electoral scandal with incalculable consequences for peace in our country.

Mr Ali BACHIR, member of the CPDM central committee and president of the CPDM section in Vina, whose name is mentioned in the video, must be arrested for investigation.

Issued in Yaoundé on 19/12/2024
The National President of the CRM,
Maurice KAMTO
