Widely regarded as a key figure in the “Holy Trinity” of Cameroonian journalism, Haman Mana remains unwavering in his stance against François Marc Modzom. Last Saturday, Modzom published an opinion piece titled “Ceasefire,” in which he addressed the insults directed at him following his remarks on BNews1, where he questioned the journalistic credentials of Séverin Tchounkeu, CEO of Equinoxe TV and president of the press card commission of Cameroon’s media regulatory body.
Although Séverin Tchounkeu himself attempted to counter his critic, he also received support from prominent figures like Benjamin Zébazé and Haman Mana. In his initial response, Mana weighed in on the clash between François Marc Modzom and Séverin Tchounkeu with a pointed remark :
> “Séverin Tchounkeu # François Marc Modzom = Creators (Goods and services) # Creatures (By decree),” he posted on Facebook.
These strong interventions, among others, were dismissed by the author of Silence presidentiel as mere publicity stunts meant to highlight his “modest self.” Yet, in the same opinion piece, Modzom defended himself against these accusations while calling for calm.
>”My moral and civic duty compels me to engage this matter in a civilised way. Thank you for the free publicity I’ve received lately. But, for the sake of our image and honor, PLEASE CEASE THE FIRE!!!”
In response, Haman Mana appeared to remind Modzom of the origin of the controversy, posting another sharp remark on Facebook this Sunday :
>‘A so-called cardinal’… (Memories, memories…) A SNIPER does not call for a ‘Ceasefire’…” he posted on Facebook this Sunday.
It is clear that the Modzom vs. Tchounkeu dispute is far from over.
