The attention of the Cameroonian football community is focused on Egypt, where CAF’s disciplinary jury will reconvene to deliberate on the case against Eto’o. The initial hearing on July 4, 2024, was postponed due to insufficient evidence regarding claims of match-fixing in favor of Victoria United during the Elite One season. The jury is set to meet again on January 8 to examine the accusations, with a final verdict potentially being delivered on Wednesday.

The complainants submitted audio recordings alleging Eto’o played a role in securing Victoria United’s promotion to Elite One. However, the CAF jury previously deemed the evidence inadequate to incriminate the former FC Barcelona star. If proven guilty, Eto’o could have faced penalties for breaching ethical standards, integrity, and sportsmanship, along with a $200,000 fine.

The outcome of this case is highly anticipated, particularly with CAF elections just months away. Eto’o is competing for a seat on the executive committee, but a suspension, as sought by the complainants, could jeopardize his candidacy. For now, Cameroonians are keenly awaiting the jury’s decision.
