Cameroonian journalist Bruno Bidjang revealed that the appeal submitted by certain stakeholders of Cameroonian football to CAF’s appeals committee may conclude in Samuel Eto’o’s favor. Following the verdict issued by CAF’s disciplinary jury on July 4, 2024, the Association of Cameroonian Football Clubs had appealed for a thorough investigation into the allegations against Eto’o. They accused him of match-fixing and manipulation in Elite One championship and argued that the $200,000 fine imposed for breaching rules of ethics, fairness, and sportsmanship was insufficient given the seriousness of the charges.
However, their efforts seem to have been unsuccessful, as the appeals jury reportedly rejected their case this Wednesday in Egypt, according to journalist Bruno Bidjang. Sources indicate that the FECAFOOT president assembled a team of four lawyers for his defense. This decision represents a major setback for Eto’o’s critics, who were anticipating his suspension from all football-related activities and the disqualification of his bid for a position on CAF’s executive committee.
If exonerated, as suggested by Vision4, Eto’o could freely continue his pursuit of a CAF position. However, this information remains unconfirmed.
