The Mayor of the City of Yaoundé informs the merchants, street vendors and the public that starting from January 20, 2025, the sale of goods in wheelbarrows, door-to-door, portable stalls, is strictly prohibited in the streets, sidewalks and other public rights-of-way in the areas of MOKOLO, Quartier MESSA, ELIG EFFA, VILLAGE DES JEUNES in Etetak, CARREFOUR MEEC, CARREFOUR NKOLBISSON, CENTRAL MARKET of Yaoundé, ETOUDI MARKET, surroundings of MARCHE EKOUNOU, NSAM MARKET(main road), TERMINUS MIMBOMAN, MIMBOMAN SAPEUR, EMOMBO Parish, ESSOS MARKET.

Any offender is liable to the repressive measures provided for by the texts in force.

While this measure is widely seen as an effective step towards combating urban disorder and has received much applause, it raises an important question: has the mayor provided an alternative solution for the affected vendors who can no longer carry out their daily activities freely, or will they simply be left to fend for themselves?”. In this economically challenging period, many hope it’s not the case, and that the mayor will inform the public in coming days of another alternative as failure to do so will have a highly negative impact on these vendors of the informal sector and families.
