Last Monday, an extraordinary piece of information rocked the Cameroonian web. The information revealed that, Jean-Pierre Batamack, founding president of Avion Academy and a member of the Cameroon Football Federation’s executive committee, pointed a gun at his players during a training session at Douala University Stadium. According to reports, Avion Academy players have been demanding their unpaid wages for several months, creating a division within the club, which currently plays in the second division.
Jean-Pierre Batamack denied this on a radio program ‘Le Onze Entrant’, when he was reached by telephone call. The chairman of Avion Academy took offence at the journalists who had relayed the information without verifying and he at the same time announced that legal action would be taken against them, according to the CFOOT media publication of 17 January 2025.
While awaiting the outcome of this affair, which is making headlines in Cameroonian sports circles, Avion Academy FC are on a steady progress in Elite Two. On Wednesday, day 5, Stéphane Foko Kamka and his squad beat Dragon de Yaoundé 1-0. Despite these tensions, the Douala club are top of Group B with 12 points from four wins and one defeat. Their next game is against Yafoot this Saturday at 1pm.
