After enduring more than five months in captivity, Ewane Roland according to multiple reports, was released at approximately 7:12 pm on March 17, 2025. He was immediately transferred to the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR) camp in Jabane, from where he was taken to Buea in the Fako Division. His release marks the end of a bitter experience that began on October 1, 2024, when he was kidnapped alongside a local councilor in Idabato.
Throughout his captivity, his wife had repeatedly called on the Cameroonian government to intervene and secure his release from kidnappers who claimed to be pirates from neighboring Nigeria. His abductors issued a series of demands, including a ransom amounting to hundreds of millions of CFA francs for his release.
Though the circumstances surrounding his release is unclear, with authorities yet to disclose whether the ransom was paid or if any of the kidnappers’ demands were met, it is a joyful news that the officer will finally be reunited with his family most especially his wife who feared the worse for her husband’s life.
