The growing obsession of quick wealth among young people in the country has reached an alarming stage, with many willing to go extreme miles to make the money. A recent case highlights this disturbing trend, as a young man of 20 years who is currently in police custody after he was arrested for kidnapping his neighbours child of one year and eight months toddler, last Sunday in Bafoussam and demanded a ransom of one million FCFA. According to reports from Canal 2 TV, thanks to the vigilance of the local population, the child was luckily rescued 48 hrs later by farmers who heard his cries in an abandoned fram house.
The Chief of anti criminality brigade revealed that the suspect took advantage of a moment of distraction in the family to take the child away. He transported the toddler 15 km away from home to an abandoned, empty farmhouse with only two bons and a cup of yogurt.
It is an immense relief for the family of the little one was returned to them unharmed and is reunited with his family who had endured anxiety and fear, while the suspect will have to answer to his acts in coming days.
This case serves as another reminder of the dangers in the relentless pursuit of wealth at all cost for it will only send one to doom. But in this era where the love of money has dominated people’s conscience, it is important for parents, guardians, children and society at large to be very careful and vigilant to avoid falling in the hands of the wicked ones. While the pursuit of wealth is natural, seeking it through unhealthy means only leads to disaster.
