For over two weeks, videos have been circulating online with images of the supposed new coins on the Internet space, it is as a result of the acclaimed video that the bank released a communique on March 07, denouncing it and warning the public against misleading information. The Central Bank clarified it, stating that the new range of cous. will start circulating in the month of April and urged the public to only look out for official information to avoid been duped.
Though the new coins circulation was announced since last year, it’s this year that it began touring countries in the CEMAC region to show them the new range of coins. This change, is aimed at resolving issues with the circulation and acceptance of small coin, which a relief to many who have long complained about the scarcity of coins, which has affected daily transactions and businesses in the region. 200 francs coin is reportedly amongst the new range of coins denomination.
As the new coins make their way into circulation, Cameroonians and other CEMAC citizens hope that this initiative will resolve long-standing issues related to cash transactions.
