The Cameroon Defence Forces carried out an operation to free a dozen hostages in the Adamaoua region, putting an end to several weeks of ordeal for these civilians. The administrative and security authorities presented the freed hostages at a ceremony held during last week on the governor’s square. Kidnapped in Mbéré and Vina department, these hostages were being held for ransom by armed groups. Thanks to the rapid and effective intervention of members of the 5th Rapid Intervention Battalion, the criminals were neutralised and the hostages released unharmed.
Details from JDC reveal that Colonel Joseph Kounaka Menandi, commander of the BIR, and his men neutralised 10 kidnappers, without endangering the hostages themselves. During the same operation, the soldiers seized war material and drugs. A total of 2,838 rounds of ammunition, 14 AK47-type weapons, 10 home-made weapons, 18 mobile phones and a large quantity of drugs were seized.
The governor of the Adamaoua region, Kildadi Taguieke Boukar, congratulated the colonel and his troops on the results of their operation. The administrative authority also called on the people of the region to continue to collaborate with the Defence and Security Forces to curb the activity of highwaymen in the Adamaoua region.
