The stars shown brightly on the winners of the Cameroon Ballon d’Or 2024 at the Palais des Congrès in Yaounde, as Naomi Leslie Ndjoah Eto and John Bosco Nincho claimed the top honours in this 30th edition of the prestigious award. In Elite One, Nincho John of Young Sport Academy in Bamenda succeeds Emmanuel Mahop, the 2023 winner. Meanwhile in the Guinness Super League, rising star Naomi Leslie Eto, aged 20, takes over Ngah Manga Gisèle Divine, the previous title holder.
Young Sport Academy striker John Bosco Nincho triumphed over strong contenders Nathan Douala of Victoria United and Yvan Mvondo Olama of Colombe du Dja Elobo. During the 2023-2024 season, Bosco showcased his talent scoring 18 goals and provided five assists, helping his club maintaining its ranking in Elite One.
Naomi Eto, a rising star
There were no surprises when Naomi Leslie Ndjoah Eto was awarded the golden ball. The Nîmes Olympique player and former Armed Forces and Police (FAP) player had long been the favourite o claim the honour. After a brilliant participation in the Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, crowned by 4 goals in four games, and a fine season in the Guinness Super League 2023-2024, it solidified her status as best. When her name was announced by Philippe Mbarga Mboa, the Minister in charge of relations at the Presidency of the Republic, emotions ran high. In her absence, her mother received the award, overwhelmed with emotions and almost speechless. Naomi Eto has already written her name in Cameroonian football, leaving behind a brilliant legacy.
An exceptional ceremony
The Ballon d’Or 2024 ceremony honoured 18 categories in Cameroonian football, both the men’s and women’s competition. The Cameroon Football Federation spared no effort in making a true spectacle, with some of the county’s most important figures including, Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Minister Ernest Ngllé Bibéhè and the Minister in charge of relations at the Office of the President of the Republic, representing First Lady Chantal Biya. The night was a shining tribute to Cameroon football talents and as the curtain draws on this edition, anticipation is already building for next year’s honorees.
I don’t understand why his name will be translated. His names are Nchindo John Bosco not Jean or Nincho. Maybe this should be corrected
