The confiscated items included fake stethoscopes, thermometers, and blood pressure monitors. According to the Chief of the Customs Brigade in Ntam, the officers intercepted 2,446 tablets packed in ten cartons, which were cleverly hidden in bags of garlic and onions. The illicit cargo was being smuggled from Congo, intended for distribution across black markets in various cities within the country.
Having being informed of the seizure, the Governor of the East Region, Grégoire Mvongo, and the President of the Regional Committee for the Fight Against Fake Drugs, have sent a joint mission involving the Regional Customs Fund for Health Promotion. According to reports, the mission’s objective was to transport the seized items to the appropriate authorities in Bertoua for their final destruction.
As the crackdown on fake drugs and health equipment continues, authorities continue to urge citizens to be vigilant as fake drug tablets are still widely in the market and buy supplies only from professional medical institutions to avoid buying fake.
