In a communique on February 25, 2025, Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji made this announcement, stating that some leaders of NGOs asked for the extension. According to the release, the organizations were initially required to submit the reports on January 30, but now have up to the end of March to do so. The minister has warned of sanctions for failure to comply to this deadline.
The NGOs suspension ending of last year 2024, provoked outrage in civil society, with activists asserting that it was intended to suppress opposition. Among the suspended was REDHAC owned by prominent human rights lawyer Alice Nkom who openly defied the suspension by breaking official seals on the office door.
