Yesterday, a group of unsuccessful candidates from the special teacher recruitment scheme staged a sit-in in front of the Ministry of Higher Education expressing their dissatisfaction with the process. The teachers, who were hoping to secure employment in certain state universities, mobilised themselves to voice their concerns. During the sit-in, the teachers who failed the recruitment exams had the opportunity to speak with Jacques Fame Ndongo, the Minister of Higher Education. The meeting was an opportunity for the demonstrators to present their demands directly to the main authority concerned. They are hopeful that the Minister will be able to find solutions to their demands. Read all about it in Mutations.

L’Etudiant, provides additional information on the strike. According to today’s publication, nearly 100 doctors and PhD holders who failed the recruitment process for lecturers in the three new state universities mobilised to demand the addition of a supplementary list. The demonstration that took place at the esplanade of the Ministry of Higher Education maintained its peaceful nature till they were received by the minister Pr Jacques Fame Ndongo, the conclusions of this interview can be read on page 3 of the newspaper.

This morning, Le Messager focuses on the scandal surrounding the “Intouch” video game. On page 3, the paper reveals that the Minister of Territorial Administration is trampling legal provisions and presidential instructions in an attempt to set up a system for centralising and monitoring online games. However, effective monitoring of online gambling is essential to prevent abuses and guarantees a safe environment for users.

Meanwhile, as the country prepares for the upcoming election Le jour features Abakar Ahamat, latest book that talks on elections fraud. In his new book, the former governor shares his experience in the field. More details can be found on page 5.

Info Matin headlines Joseph Lé’s statement “Aigles has taken its flight and must continue to brilliantly excel”. This remark was made by Minfopra on 20 February in Kribi, Ocean department, at the opening of the 106th session of the task force and the 8th session of the inter-ministerial committee. The event saw the presence of several other ministries, notably the Ministry of Finance, represented by the Director General of the Budget, Dr Cyrill Edou Alo’o. The Minister, who chairs the Committee, also expressed his satisfaction at the remarkable progress made by the new Application. More details on pages 2-3.

Le quotidien equally gives complementary information on the Minister’s speech, highlighting the positive reception of the application. 51 days after its official launch on 1 January 2025, feedback from government is encouraging. The Computer Application for Logical Manpower and Payroll Management, (AIGLES) is proving to be a valuable tool for digitising and optimising public administration. This success underlines Cameroon’s ability to embrace digital transformation and improve efficiency in public service management.

Following a violent protest that occurred in Meyo, La Météo reports on a return to calm in the area. Two similar murders in the space of four days in this locality in the district of Ambam, the departmental capital, forced the population to demonstrate their frustration on 20 February by vandalising shops and blocking the No2 road linking Ebolowa to Ambam. Details as to what transpired on page 3.

The Guardian Post informs on Cameroon ranked among world’s most corrupt nations again! On page 3 of the newspaper, this revelation is according to the Corruption Perception Index, CPI, 2024. The ranking is contained in a report released by Transparency International, on February 11, 2025. The global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption, stressed that the scourge remains alarming world wide and in Cameroon in particular. Transparency International regretted the fact that cor-ruption has become a norm in Cameroon. According to the global movement that works to end injustices of corruption by promoting transparency, accountability and integrity, Cameroon’s ranking in the CPI 2024 is hardly sur-prising. This, they said, is because the scourge has become second nature to many Cameroonians.

To conclude, My Hospital headlines a Urological Surgery Campaign that is currently ongoing in Yaoundé. Since February 17, the Yaoundé Central Hospital has been hosting the third Cameroonian Live Reconstructive Urology Workshop, a major medical initiative aimed at improving access to urological reconstructive surgery in Cameroon. Organised under the supervision of Prof Pierre Joseph Fouda, in collaboration with the Société Camerounaise d’Urologie (SCUR) and the Pan-African Association of Urologists (PAUSA), the campaign, dubbed “Rebuilding Hope“, will run until 22 February 2025. To date, operations carried out as part of this campaign have been encouragingly successful, with no major complications reported. Read page 3 for details.
