Today’s review begins with Cameroun Tribune as it headlines the Cameroon ballon d’or 2025: Day of truth. Nathan Doualla of Victoria United, Nchindo John Bosco of Yosa and Ivan Mvondo Olama of Colombe du Dja will battle for the title of Cameroon’s best player at the Ballon d’Or 2024 ceremony this evening at the Palais des Congrès in Yaoundé. Despite the prestigious award, La Voix des jeunes questions its impact. According to the paper, past winners of Cameroon’s Ballon d’Or still struggle to gain visibility. Between their absence from the national team and their lack of opportunities on the international stage, these award-winning talents very often end up in the shadows. Read page 3 for more details.

Meanwhile L’étudiant shifts the focus to innovation with artificial intelligence taking the spotlight. On 22 April 2025, the second edition of the Cameroon Artificial Intelligence Days at the Hilton Hôtel in Yaounde, will reward the best artificial intelligence projects by young Cameroonians.The call for entries, launched on 10 January, has already attracted more than 60 candidates. The winners will be determined through an online vote, and assessed by a panel of experts. More details on page 3.

Le Messager exposes a web of collusion within the Cameroon Volleyball Federation. Yesterday’s decision by the TGI did little to conceal the close ties between certain members of the Fecavolley board and the former president. Ties allegedly aimed at paralysing the internal operations of the Federation. Full story on page 12.

Meanwhile, Le Quotidien moves to the edification of Archbishop Jean MBARGA to media professionals. During the Jubilee of journalists and communicators, which took place on 23 February 2024 at the Basilica of Mary Queen of the Apostles in Mvolyé, Yaoundé, the Archbishop delivered the edifying message. The event initiated by the Holy Father, served as a moment of prayer and reflection as he urged media professionals to be agents of peace through responsible reports.

Still in the capital city, Le jour sheds light on a serious humanitarian issue, with nearly 80 internally displaced persons abandoned. These people from the Northwest region live on a poultry farm in the Mvog Beti district P.3

My Hospital takes us to the Far North revealing that the Dziguilao District Medical Centre has been without a doctor for 5 years. This situation is causing concern among local authorities and traditional chiefs, despite their repeated pleas to the Ministry of Public Health. There is growing concern about the impact of this shortage on people’s health. More on page 5.

Ahead of the October elections, Mutation highlights a strategic move, as the government is reportedly turning its attention to the Far North. With just a few months to go before the presidential election, the government is showing particular interest in Cameroon’s poorest but most electorally potential region. Read the analysis on page 9.
