2025 Presidentials: Four opposition parties throw weight behind Biya! That’s the headline of The Guardian Post that’s sets the tone for today’s press review. The anticipated candidacy of incumbent president, Paul Biya, for the upcoming presidential election, is getting more endorsements from key actors from across the board. After blessings from traditional rulers and some religious leaders nationwide, four opposition political parties have also thrown their weight behind President Biya to seek reelection. Members of factions of the Cameroon People’s Union, UPC, Movement for Democracy and Defense of the Republic, MDR, Cameroonian Party for National Reconciliation, PCRN, and Parti Republicain Agriculteurs, PRAC, declared their support for Biya Friday, January 31 in Yaounde.

Still on the 2025 presidential race, Info Matin headline Ndongo Bikoo Rallies Grassroots Support for Paul Biya. The president of the Nyong-et-Mfoumou CPDM North section and mayor of Ayos is actively engaging with population ground. His aim is to raise awareness among the district’s population—especially ruling party militants, while encouraging those not yet registered to do so. See page 3 for more details.

Continuing with the 2025 election, Prospective Nouvelle leads with the title, René Sadi’s appeal to the media. During the New Year’s greetings ceremony on 30 January 2025, the Minister of Communication called on the media to strictly observe the rules of professional ethics and deontology, to stand as a barrier against incitement to irredentism and violence, hate speech and partisan positions, and to respect the rules of balance in the treatment of information and coverage of the campaign activities of candidates and political parties.

Still in today’s press review, Intégration titles on it’s frontpage; Historical dispute between Cameroon and France. France’s admission is, the first step. After decades of obstinate denial of Cameroon’s war of independence by the French authorities, the publication of the Memory Commission is an implicit admission by France, and a victory for the Cameroonian people. However, this report only scratches the surface of the formidable resistance of the Cameroonian people. Full details on pages 10 & 11.

Moving on with Cameroon’s Insider’s headline; Report of French suppression In Cameroon. Calls Galore for conciliatory action. Based on the reports, experts believe that in other for France to enjoy a long standing relationship with the country actions needed from France include an official apology to Cameroon, the payment of reparations to affected families, and the systematic return of stolen artefacts and other valuable items.

La Météo titles on it’s frontpage explosion of a water pipe, Eloundou Essomba to the rescue of the Ngousso disaster victims. On 31st January, the Minister of Water and Energy paid a visit of solidarity and compassion to the families affected by the tragedy in this district of Yaoundé. Accompanied by the CEO of Camwater, Blaise Moussa, the Minister also offered the condolences of the Head of State.

L’Indépendant this morning titles on Scarcity of drinking water in Yaoundé. A dilapidated domestic distribution network, high water pressure from the Sanaga, recurrent water hammering and other problems are perpetuating the water shortage in the capital city. Recurrent burst pipes on the water transport and distribution networks are affecting the supply of water to the city of Yaoundé and the surrounding area, which was thought to be set for the long term thanks to the Yaoundé and surrounding area drinking water supply project (Paepys).

On newsstands this morning L’Économie covers implementation of integration projects in the CEMAC region. Private companies in the CEMAC are now eligible. A regional public procurement strategy and a directive on public-private partnerships (PPPs) have just been adopted.

Wrapping up today’s press review, Mutation titles on its front page Disturbing revelations on the broken rice being sold at a promotional sale of 15,000 FCFA. The paper reports on a controversial shipment of 8,000 tonnes of broken rice, tracing its journey from Kribi to Yaoundé. More insight on page 7.
