We open today’s press review with the daily Mutations, that gives an exclusive report from Ebolowa highlights Friday visit of the Ministry of Trade’s caravan for the promotional sale of rice. “You have to get up early with your national identity card to get access to the precious commodity“, the report states. Cameroonian doctors are currently poorly trained”. This shocking sentence comes from Dr Rodolphe Fonkoua, President of the National Order of Doctors of Cameroon (ONMC). Writing in Echos Santé, he paints an alarming picture of the medical situation in Cameroon. At the same time, he condemns the fact that doctors are trained more in theory than in practice, with only one university hospital centre (CHU) for 10 faculties of medicine, and suggests closing 08 faculties to provide better training. Rodolphe Fonkoua also proposes solutions to end endemic unemployment among young doctors within three years. In addition, he tackles the illegal practice of medicine and proposes solutions to make Cameroon a destination for medical tourism. Cameroon is set to welcome four new cement plant by 2025, reports défis actuels. According to the Acting Minister of Industry, Fuh Calistus Gentry, speaking to Défis Actuels, the projects include Africa Cement, Sinafcim, Yousheng Cement and Empire projects. He made this announcement at the annual conference of the central and decentralised services of his ministerial department on 24 January 2025.

InfoMatin reports this morning on transparent dialogue between cocoa stakeholders. According to the paper, this is Cameroon’s objective at the 111th International Session of this sector, which the Minister of Trade is chairing in Yaoundé from 7 to 11 April 2025. On 24 January, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana granted a preparatory audience in his office to the Executive Director of the International Cocoa Organisation, Michel Arion.

According to Dieudonné Mveng’s paper, the aim of the meetings, which could take place in Yaoundé over two days in the first half of March, is to renew the members of the Central Committee and Political Bureau and reappoint Paul Biya as national president and candidate for the 2025 presidential election.

Le Financier d’Afrique reports on the impact of the new “Aigles” application on the Treasury. “Updating 203,000 public servants, cleaning up undue salary items, making the pay file more secure, improving the quality of service and managing mobility” are just some of the results of the software package for monitoring the careers and pay of government employees launched on 6 January 2025.

To conclude, The Guardian Post titles one 2025 Presidentials as Traditional rulers meet in Yaounde today to endorse Biya!. The newspaper reports that traditional rulers from across the country, will today converge in Yaounde to publicly endorse President Paul Biya to seek re-election during the forthcoming presidential election. We gathered from a source invited to the gathering that when the royal fathers meet today, the endorsement of Biya, 92, as their candidate of choice will be at the front burner of their discussions. The meeting, organised at the behest of the leadership of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Cameroon, will assemble traditional rulers drawn from all ten Regions of the country. At least 300 traditional rulers will attend today’s enlarged executive bureau meeting of the outfit. The meeting to be held at the Yaounde Conference Centre, will have in attendance special guests invited to the gathering.
