As the school year is set to resume tomorrow, April 22, teachers are also announcing their back-to-school strike. This is the front-page story of Mutation this Monday. After observing that their demands have not been met, the unions are maintaining the strike action for the start of the third term. There is a threat to end of year evaluations and official exams. Details can be found on page 7.

Cameroun Tribune headlines that more than 2,000 positions are available in the public service. A series of professional, direct, training, and selection exams in various sectors such as agriculture, livestock, maritime fishing, and public health has just been launched by the government. These are job opportunities for young Cameroonians to seize. See pages 16 to 17 for more information.

In today’s edition, Le Jour reports that Afriland First Holding is facilitating an investment of around 800 billion CFA francs in the Central African Republic. The major agreement aimed at boosting agribusiness in the CAR was signed on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, in Bangui, in the presence of President Faustin Archange Touadera. Read more on page 6.

La Nouvelle Expression gives more details about this investment in the CAR. According to the newspaper, the massive investment whose documents have already been signed lists Afriland First Holding among its main financiers. The project is expected to create more than 100,000 jobs for Central Africans and achieve significant social developments. See pages 6 to 7.

43 billion CFA francs in the trash” is the headline of Le Reporter. Camp Sic of Ebolowa: A poorly executed project costing 43 billion CFA francs. On April 3, 2025, rain in Ebolowa, in the South region of Cameroon, blew off the roofs of social housing built by the Cameroon Real Estate Company (SIC). Images of the wind which was far from extraordinary raise questions about a project that cost 43 billion CFA francs and was built on the Ngalan site. It should be noted that the Ngalan Camp SIC was constructed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu) and not by SIC, even though the latter is the government’s official arm for social housing. The contracts were awarded to Chinese and Arab companies by Minister Célestine Ketcha Courtes, head of the ministry. See pages 4 to 5 for more.

Le Messager headlines “Alone against all.” Coordinator of the Far North Operation: 100,000 youth united behind Paul Biya for 2025, an event scheduled for May 10 in Maroua. El Hadj Boukar Abdourahim, Chief of Staff to the President of the National Assembly, is under pressure from some regime barons.

Still regarding the gathering of 100,000 youth for the RDPC, L’Essor focuses on the amount. 1.4 billion requested from the Presidency for its success. According to credible sources, a staggering sum of nearly 1.4 billion CFA francs has reportedly been requested from the Presidency to fund the event. An amount that, in many respects, raises serious doubts about the true motives of the organizers.

We end with L’Indépendant, which pays tribute from beyond the grave. In an interview with the late journalist and writer Jacques Chancel, conducted at the presidential palace in Yaoundé and broadcast on February 2, 1976, on France Inter, the first President of the Republic of Cameroon, Ahmadou Ahidjo then 50 years old and after 18 years in power shared his thoughts on the longevity of power.
