Today’s press review opens with Financier d’Afrique, that reports on Banque Atlantique Cameroun rebranding to AFG Bank Cameroun. The official unveiling of the new corporate identity will take place this Monday, March 3, 2025, in Douala. The ceremony will be presided over by the Minister of Finance.

With the 2025 presidential elections approaching, anti-Biya regime sentiments are resurrecting among the Cameroon diaspora in Europe. According to The Guardian Post, youth affairs minister escaped beating, as his collaborators were poured powder on faces. The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, and his collaborators, survived thrashing by a whisker in the Belgian capital, Brussels, on Friday, February 28, 2025. The delegation, which is on what it terms a Diaspora sensitisation tour to prepare the youth for massive engage ment and peace before, during and after the presidential poll of this year, got the exact opposite of its assigned mission. While momentum was building for the event that had been programmed at Le Caridge Hotel in Brussels, things veered for the worst. The hall was almost getting filled up when anti-Biya regime protesters invaded the space and swooped on some of the minister’s collaborators before chasing others out of the hall. The attackers poured powder into the face of some of those who had streamed into the hall before turning the event venue upside-down. Apparently feeling they had gotten their target, who seemingly was Minister Mounoua Foutsou, the group poured a good dose of powder into the face of scholar and school proprietor, Prof Bertin Leopold Kouayap.

Despite the Brussel’s incident, L’étudiant highlights that minister Mounouna Fotso, taking the role of good father and enlightened guide, has forgiven this act and is inviting the protagonists to a more formal framework for dialogue. More details on page 3.

Le Témoin headlines Mincommerce supports Muslims in fight against high cost of living. According to the paper, this year’s ramadan fast is expected to be less challenging fro Muslim worshippers, thanks to the special government’s initiative aimed at easing the burden of high cost if living. On February 28, the Minister of Trade, Luc Magloire MBARGA ATANGANA, launched a special sales campaign to provide fast-moving consumer goods at unbeatable prices. The campaign that took place at the Grande Mosquée Centrale de la Briqueterie in Yaoundé, will continue throughout the Ramadan period to ensure that essential food items remain accessible and affordable to the Muslim community across the country.

Meanwhile, La Météo focuses on the adoption 2024 financial of the accounts adopted adopted by the Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale (CNPS). The Board of Directors met on February 28 in Yaoundé under the chairmanship of Madame Haman Djoda épse Mohamadou Bilitté. Durithe session Managing Director, Noël Alain Olivier Mekulu Mvondo Akame, presented performance reports and ongoing projects. New National Identity Card: Paul Biya sets the rules. Cameroun Tribune highlights the modernization of national identity documents following two presidential decrees signed last Friday. The decrees outline the simplification of the issuance process and the enhancement of security features for various official documents. The texts also detail the technical characteristics of the identity card and other identity documents (residence permit, resident card, refugee card, professional police card and national invalidity card). A reform that is expected to strengthen the integrity of the national document. Details on pages 3 to 9.

The newspaper Repères titles on Sonara to begins its rehabilitation. According to the paper, the Société nationale de raffinage is officially launching its reconstruction activities after it was damaged by fire on the night of May 31 to June 1, 2019. The announcement was made on 27 February 2025 by the Managing Director, El Hadj Bako Harouna, during the company’s New Year wishes ceremony. The new plant will be based on the final configuration of the “Sonara 2010” project. The government will also have to inject 250 billion FCFA to reduce the refinery’s losses from 45% to 7%. P.7

Douala and Yaounde: Urban mobility projects still stagnant. In a critical report, L’Économie sheds light on these projects that were initiated over 10 years ago to improve public transport, but have failed to materialise as expected. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and city councils have been singled out for delays. The lack of concrete progress has continued to hinder urban mobility and is affecting commuters and the city infrastructural development.
