On Friday 17 January 2025, the National Executive Board of the Higher Education Union reaffirmed its decision to maintain the strike in universities. After a temporary truce last week, the strike will resume in full force this Monday 20 January 2025, due to unfulfilled promises. Boris Landry Kouekam’s L’Etudiant reports exclusively on it.

Cameroon Tribune, on page 2 of today’s edition, talks about the forthcoming elections and points out that vigilance will continue to be the order of the day. “Protecting people and their property, improving equipment and building various infrastructures are just some of the points raised last Friday by Minister Joseph Beti Assomo during the presentation of New Year’s greetings“, writes the newspaper.

Le Financier d’Afrique is also on newsstands, and in today’s issue it sets out the seven major challenges facing Cameroon in implementing the 2025 budget. “The aggravation of the security crisis in the North-West, South-West and Far-North regions, the risks associated with public debt, the persistence of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and the spread of the crisis in the Middle East, as well as the prolonged tightening of global financial conditions, are some of the threats identified by the Ministry of Finance“.

Japan’s new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Cameroon, His Excellency Minami Kentaro, met the Minister of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Social Economy and Handicrafts, Achille Bassillekin III, last Friday at his office. In addition to strengthening the areas of collaboration and expanding cooperation between the two countries into new fields, the two personalities explored ways in which Cameroonian SMEs could benefit from JICA support as part of the preparations and participation of a Minpmeesa delegation at Expo Universelle 2025. Meanwhile, justice is still slow in the Martinez Zogo case. Its been two years since the famous journalist and station manager of Radio Amplitude FM was brutally murdered. The 15th hearing, held on 13 January at the Yaoundé Military Court, lasted barely half an hour. Once again, “the decision of the Court of Appeal on the objections raised by the defence lawyers is still awaited. However, the defence lawyers are accusing their colleagues on the civil side of deliberately delaying the trial in order to prolong their clients’ stay in prison”, the newspaper Le Zénith reports in it’s edition.

We have the Guardian post that informs us on the front page the , The Port Authority of Douala, PAD, has signed financing conventions with French construction company, NEGRI, for the modernisation of its container terminal. The conventions were signed in Douala on Friday January 17. The ceremony saw the signing of four agreements detailing the terms and conditions for the infrastructural transformation and modernization of the Container Terminal of the Douala Port in Bonaberi. The total cost of the project is expected to amount a total of 47, 277, 592, 936 FCFA and NEGRI is to provide all the finances needed for the project.

Eco news titles focuses on the 2025 budget Billions to revive the English-speaking regions. The newspaper Info Matin this morning based its interest on insecurity in Ayos. The newspaper reveals internally displaced persons from Noso, Central Africans, Nigerians and others attack, rape and murder, daily. A cosmopolitan city once a secured place has now become a wild area of Nyong-et-Mfoumou. The living together and the legendary hospitality that Cameroonians have always been promoting is now severely tested. More details on Page 2-3.
