The daily health newspaper Echo Santé informs on Douala, Yaoundé, under the threat of the plague. According to the paper, the alert was launched by certain experts on issues related to the environment and the ecosystem who are calling on the health authorities to improve the living environment of the populations to avoid the worst. Douala and Yaoundé, like most cities in Cameroon, are overrun by rats. Wild dumps, wastewater, and poor hygiene conditions create an environment conducive to the multiplication of these animals. This critical situation favors the spread of serious diseases like the plague. The health consequences could be much more dramatic. The health authorities are called to act quickly.
