The Prime Minister is intensifying efforts to address Yaounde’s roads and sanitation issues. According to this morning’s edition of Cameroon Tribune, the government is prioritising increased financial resources, more action on the ground and collaboration among stakeholders. During a meeting chaired by Prime Minister and Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute, it was decided that a working group be set up to propose lasting solutions to these persistent problems within two weeks.

The 6th China-Africa eye health forum: Using artificial intelligence to fight blindness in Africa. Yaounde hosted the 6th China-Africa Eye Health Forum, an event organised by the Africa Ophthalmology Network Foundation (AFROPHTHA) in collaboration with several international and national partners, including China’s National Training Centre for the Prevention of Blindness, the He Eye Specialist Hospital (HESH). Under the theme; Artificial Intelligence in the Fight against Blindness in Africa, the forum aims to strengthen Sino-African cooperation in the prevention and treatment of eye diseases, while highlighting the opportunities offered by technological advances. Youth and immigration, an open conversation, is the focus of L’étudiant this morning. Staying through to its missions to support young people, the National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development organised a day of reflection and awareness-raising on immigration in Yaoundé on 25 February 2025. During this event, two special guests, Vivien Gatchuesi, president of the association for social and solidarity development, and Mélo Aleau, content creator, shared their experiences on immigration with the young audience. La Voix du Consommateur highlights the urgent need to retrain baby-sitters
Babysitting and domestic work is a delicate profession in Cameroon, despite the absence of an appropriate legal framework. The newspaper emphasises the importance of employers should first conduct a morality investigation before taking on a nanny or housekeeper. It should also be remembered that nannies and housekeepers also have rights, including a decent wage and membership in social protection schemes like CUPS. It’s this balance that will help create a climate of trust to counter the often fatal abuses. See pages 2-5 for details.

Tony Elumelu is on an official visit to Cameroon, informs Eco Matin. On invitation of the Cameroonian government, the head of the UBA group met Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute yesterday, 25 February 2025, to explore the investment opportunities available in Cameroon. In addition to expanding his banking activities in Cameroon and Central Africa, Tony Elumelu wants to increase his investments in various sectors. More on page 6.
