Ngoran Aristide Tehtinnyuy, a young Cameroonian originally from Nso in the North West region, has set a new record at Tokai University in Japan, becoming the first international student to graduate as the best student in civil engineering. Her outstanding academic performance has earned her a prestigious award, marking a historic achievement for both her and Cameroon. The nation has another trailblazer who didn’t let herself be defeated in a foreign country away from her family but struggled hard to not only make her family proud but the country at large. This feat of her’s was achieved through her Masters degree thesis titled “The Recycle of Paper and Plastic Waste in the Stabilisation of Weak Soils for Civil Engineering Construction Projects, Especially Unpaved Roads.” A topic that focuses on sustainable construction methods.
Leaving her home country to pursue studies in a foreign land was not an easy journey. As the only woman in her department, she faced several challenges, including cultural differences, language barriers, and personal hardships. In an interview with Cameroon News Agency, she revealed that one of her greatest difficulties was adapting to the Japanese language in a short period. Additionally, dealing with the absence of family members while being far from home made the journey even tougher but, her resilience and determination saw her through.
Ngoran’s achievement is a source of pride not only for her family but for the entire nation, as her success stamps her name among other bright Cameroonian women flying high in the global stage.
