As the race for the 2025 presidential election heats up in the country, candidate Asong Micheal Khumbah has stirred public debate with one of his bold proposals. The aspiring leader, who is running on a communist platform, recently took to social media to unveil several of his ideological stances, one of which includes introducing mandatory military training for all youths aged 17 to 40.
“In our Communist State, military training will be obligatory for every youth between the ages of 17 to 40 years. We want to empower everyone and give all the right mentality for growth,” Khumbah stated in his latest post. This proposed system is been adopted by several countries like South Korea, where men between 18 and 35 years old are required to undergo one year of mandatory military service. However, the proposal is alien to Cameroonians and has not been warmly received, with many expressing skepticism and concern over its necessity and feasibility.
Khumbah is yet to provide concrete reasons for implementing such a policy, but as the pre-electoral campaign takes over, he is expected to elaborate on the rationale behind this and other parts of his communist vision for the country.
