Casablanca African Open: Anita Soppi Mbella and Carlos Ngueya secure gold medal

Cameroon has already won four medals at the Casablanca Open. Anita Soppi Mbella and Carlos Ngueya won gold in their respective categories, while Zita Ornella and Franck Ulrich Tahman earned bronze.

Four Cameroonians have already distinguished themselves at this African Open, which is currently taking place in Casablanca, Morocco. Judoka Anita Soppi Mbella won gold in the over 78kg category, and Vladimir Carlos Ngueya also won gold in the under 90kg category. Two other Cameroonians Zita Ornella Biami in the women’s under-70kg category and Franck Ulrich Tahman Zan in the men’s under-100kg category secured bronze medal

This impressive performance by Cameroonian athletes at the judo tournament shows that the sport is enjoying a rapid ascent. At 35, Richelle Soppi Mbella continues to make her mark on the continental stage. After failing to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris in July-August 2024, she is back to win another medal in Africa. Carlos Ngueya, meanwhile, continues to impress with his fine performances, the result of hard work and exceptional talent, once again putting Cameroon judo in the limelight. Cameroon can count on him and many others in this discipline to produce more titles.
