From 6,000 newborns tested with Covid-19, the study finds that 2.9% of the infants can result positive.

The Canadian researchers noted that to their knowledge, this is the first population-based report of SARS-CoV-2 testing among a newborn cohort. Their findings for this cohort study provide further evidence suggesting that perinatal transmission of an early-life infection with SARS-CoV-2 is rare. For medical terms, SARS-CoV-2 is the labeled name of the virus that causes Covid-19.
