The unions at Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV) have declared their intention to boycott the Labour Day celebrations on May 1, citing dissatisfaction with the management of Director General Charles Ndongo. A union memo consulted by Lebledparle.com reveals their concerns over a tense social climate and challenging working conditions, which the unions believe undermine the dignity of this event dedicated to workers’ rights.
A series of grievances
The unions outlined several grievances to justify their decision of which one of their key concerns are the expired collective agreement, which has never been revised, and ongoing issues related to workplace health and safety.
They also criticize the failure to uphold contractual clauses on health insurance, with beneficiaries reporting limited access to services nationwide, the exclusion of certain common illnesses from coverage, and the suspension of eyewear benefits.
Their decision to boycott Labour Day represents a significant escalation in the unions’ protest. They are calling for concrete measures to improve CRTV’s management and ensure the protection of workers’ rights.
