Alice Nkom celebrated her 80th birthday on Tuesday in Douala, Cameroon’s economic hub. In the presence of her friends and family, the President of REDHAC, who has been at loggerheads with the country’s administrative authorities for several months over the expression of individual rights and freedoms, shared her disappointment of her church, the Evangelical Church of Cameroon (EEC).
“The EEC President’s statement is disappointing and dangerous. I am ashamed to belong to such a church. Nothing should keep me there. From now on, I’m going to stay at home and work with the people for the upcoming 2025 elections”, stated the lawyer advocating for the cause of homosexuals on the occasion of her 80th birthday celebration.
As a reminder, in a statement dated 10 January 2025, Billa Mbella Alexandre, President of the EEC, urged pastors to refrain from expressing themselves on socio-political issues and from taking public positions regarding the upcoming presidential election.
