This move has been warmly welcomed by Cameroonians, who until now have been calling for the local league to be broadcasted on Crtv. The national channel had abandoned the broadcasting of Elite One matches in favour of European league matches, a move that was widely criticised by Cameroonians and prompted the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) to announce that matches would be broadcasted on its Facebook page. An initiative that does not fit in with the promotion of Cameroonian football.
However, the announcements by Robert Bihina, editor-in-chief of CRTV, and Raphael Nkoa, channel manager of Crtv Sports, point to a resumption of broadcasting of the championship on Crtv Sport. “Crtv Sports will be putting more emphasis on our national sporting competitions in 2025. There will be programmes all around our Elite championship and even on the women’s football championship with a 90-minute pre-match slot […] And this 90-minute slot will be called Football Élite, back to local competitions. That’s the main innovation,” said Raphael Nkoa.
Agreeing with this initiative is Aimé Robert, a journalist assigned to the presidency of the Republic, who seconds that broadcasting the local championship on Crtv will help the players rise to stardom. “Crtv and Crtv Sports must create a mythology around our elite championship. We need to elevate our players to enhance their market value,” emphasized the renowned Cameroonian journalist. However, it is expected that words will be matched by deeds with the broadcasting of matchday 7 of Elite One championship next weekend and other women’s league matches.
