Samuel Eto’o’s term at the helm of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) ends in 2025. With a year left in his tenure, the man who assumed leadership of Fecafoot in 2021 remains uncertain about seeking re-election. Speaking on Radio France Internationale (RFI), Eto’o remained non-committal. “We still have several months ahead of us we’ll see,” the former captain of the Indomitable Lions said in an interview with Christophe Boisbouvier, an RFI journalist.
However, Eto’o hinted that a potential candidacy could be on the table, provided he receives support from his inner circle, given the challenges he has faced since taking over the Federation. “It was truly a difficult year, but we held firm and continue to move forward. I’ll consult with partners, those who trusted me, and those who support me daily to see if it’s worth continuing. Based on that, we’ll make a decision at the right time. But what matters most to us is showing that we can build tomorrow’s victories,” revealed Eto’o.
However, given the criticisms surrounding the governance of the Federation under the quadruple African Player of the Year, some within or outside Fecafoot circles do not wish to see him seek a second term. His clashes with the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education, as well as with some club presidents accusing him of withholding funds intended for them, could negatively impact his candidacy.
