In a press release issued today, April 18, FECAFOOT expressed astonishment over the existence of a letter dated April 14 and press releases attributed to Bamboutos FC, widely circulated across social media. The federation clarified that the document dated April 16 was only received in its official mail on April 17 at 4:30 PM. Denying the club’s claims, FECAFOOT stated that there has
been no official approach or negotiation between them and Bamboutos FC concerning their return to the championship. The governing body labeled the circulating documents as “intoxication, disinformation, and manipulation.”
The federation pressed further stating that the reasons advanced by Bamboutos FC to justify their withdrawal from the MTN Elite One Championship are unfounded, as they accused the club’s management of attempting to sabotage ongoing reforms aimed at restructuring and developing Cameroonian football. Concerning the financial issue, FECAFOOT explained that all eligible clubs in the MTN Elite One and Two championships have regularly received state subsidies, however Bamboutos FC is yet to receive hers due to documents they are to submit which are proof required for the payment of players’ salaries needed to finalize their transfer order.
Addressing the specific allegation that FECAFOOT sent emissaries to pay motorbike taxi drivers in Mbouda up to 8 million FCFA to incite public disorder, the federation categorically denied the claim, calling it “despicable, slanderous, and defamatory.” They warned that such statements damage the honor of FECAFOOT’s members and staff.
The governing body also announced its intention to take legal action against Bamboutos FC officials and any other individuals involved in spreading what it described as false and malicious information.
Despite the controversy, FECAFOOT’s President reassured the football community of their commitment to continue with their reform and modernization agenda for Cameroonian football, regardless of the blockades.
