Femicide in Mora : Pregnant woman raped to death by husband

A young woman has lost her life to another case of intimate partner femicide. She was raped to death by her unfaithful husband.

Rape of a minor in Temple

A young lady aged 19, identified as Nafissatou Babarou, lost her life after being raped by her husband Mohamadou Salam aged 38 in Mora, a city in the Far North region. The young lady, who was already a mother of one, was 4 months pregnant.

According to Griote TV who recounted the story based on a family member’s account, Nafissatou had been hospitalised for a while and upon arrival to her home found her husband on their marital bed with another woman. Angered by the act she chosed to ignore him. The man with no remorse began demanding sex from Nafissatou but she refused. Enraged, he forced himself on her despite knowing she was four month pregnant. Realising that she was no longer breathing, he fled the scene. The culprit Mohamadou Salam is currently wanted as revealed by Butterfly Cameroon following up the case.

This is yet another case of Femicide in the country just before as the month of January comes to an end, with an approximate of over 5 confirmed cases of femicide just this month not counting those that have gone unreported. The rising numbers are alarming and authorities must take urgent action. Last year alone, there were 66 recorded cases of femicide according to the Paul Atanga Nji, who assured that the justice system would hold perpetrators accountable and ensure they are brought to book. However it seems, not much is done in the terrain as more men continue to commit these heinous acts.
