The aftermath of the international women’s day celebration took a different turn for a lady identified as Christelle Bindzi and her son who were burnt to death while in their sleep in their rented room at Pk 8. According to a report from Mimi Mefo Info, Christelle Bindzi, had returned home in the early hours of Sunday morning after spending the evening out with friends celebrating International Women’s Day. Before going to bed, she reportedly placed her phone on charge on the bed and slept off with her son who was already sleeping on the same bed when the worst happened. Neighbors, who were used to seeing Christelle’s son wake up early, noticed an unusual silence from the house and grew suspicious. They then decided to check on the mother and son, but to their dismay both had been consumed by flames which to them made no sense as no noise was heard from their room.

Some speculations from the neighbourhood suggest that the fire may have started due to a phone-related short circuit while it was charging on the bed, while other reports claim that Christelle was a known smoker, raising the possibility that an unextinguished cigarette may have ignited the fire.

A witness quoted in Mimi Mefo Info stated: “The fire seemed to have started from the bed. The nearby sofa and television were untouched, which makes it strange. Neighbors had to break down the door before realizing what had happened.”
