Joshua Osih, aged 57, who was the sole candidate for the party’s leadership, has received full support from the National Advisory Council, solidifying his position as the SDF’s flag bearer. This marks Osih’s second attempt at the presidency, having previously contested in the 2018 election where he arrived at the fourth position.

During the convention, the SDF outlined its major political commitments for 2025-2026, if voted in power. It laid strong emphasis on governance reforms and socio-economic transformation. Among the key promises was a 100-day plan to end violence in the North-West and South-West regions, a pressing issue in Cameroon’s ongoing crisis that has been going on for over 8 years now. Other major commitments include a one year to restore the dignity of the Grand North’s population, transforming Cameroon’s socio-economic landscape within one mandate, introducing free national ID cards for all citizens and abolishing the ‘probatoire’ exam, a topic that recently sparked widespread debate.

With Osih now officially in the race, the 2025 presidential election campaign will soon begin as almost all the political parties have unveiled their flag bearer, with some of the key opposition figures attending the convention including Cabral Libii and Akere Muna, signifying a moment of political engagement among Cameroon’s opposition parties and maybe a potential alliances or at least a shared interest in political change.

As the election approaches, it will be a question of whose political reforms appeals to the public and who has the potential to shape Cameroon’s future. However for the election to make a difference, citizens must ensure they are registered voters, in other to participate in the voting process.
