According to customs authorities, the drugs a combination of methamphetamines, ephedrine, and cocaine were concealed in thirteen modified air compressors, that was to be trafficked discreetly through air cargo. The estimated market value of the intercepted drugs is approximately three million US dollars which is approximately over a billion FCFA highlighting the severity of the attempted trafficking.
Authorities are yet to disclose any information about possible suspects or the origin and destination of the shipment, but some reports suggest it’s from South Africa. The seized items have been sealed and secured in the customs facility, pending transfer to the appropriate judicial authorities. A legal proceeding has already been initiated in accordance with Cameroon’s laws on drug trafficking and organized crime.
This latest operation highlights the increasing vigilance of Cameroonian customs in the fight against drug trafficking, particularly in Douala which is very commendable with the increase of illicit drug abuse among most especially youth.
