Her election, achieved by consensus, marks a significant step toward greater solidarity and cooperation among media professionals in the region. Reacting to her new role, Obam expressed her unwavering commitment to the cause: “If your dreams don’t scare you, it means they’re not big enough. You have to keep working, again and again, with passion and determination, and rise from failures to reach your goals,” she shared on her Facebook page on Tuesday, April 22. Known for her persona that commands respect and brilliance, her election is a win for Cameroonian journalists as she takes the reign of this new syndicate.
According to Marion Obam, Fejac aims to bring together all syndicates actively fighting for journalists’ and media workers’ rights across Central Africa. Its primary mission includes promoting journalists’ rights, ensuring their safety, and upholding professional standards. As a regional branch of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ), Fejac also seeks to protect freedom of the press, defend freedom of expression, and strengthen the bond among its members.
Officially created during a sub-regional workshop held from April 4 to 5, 2025, in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Fejac’s executive bureau consists of Marion Obam, who is president and is from SNJC Cameroon; Vice President Kamanda Wa Kamanda from UNPC in DR Congo; and Gotigar Serge Manasé from UJT in Chad, who serves as secretary-treasurer.
The event was organized by UNESCO in collaboration with the FAJ.
