The announcement was issued in a communiqué signed on March 3. According to the statement despite the continuous rise in the value of the US dollar, which significantly affects service costs, authorities have managed to slightly reduce the pilgrimage fee this year at the cost of 3,262,620 FCFA as compared to 3,267,942 FCFA last year.
Registrations for the sacred pilgrimage will be open from now till March 17, and is conducted at the Hajj One-Stop Counter housed in Afriland First Bank. However, an assigned quota has been set, though it wasn’t revealed but based on the release, once it is reached even before the closing date, the registration process will automatically end.
The minister has urged prospective pilgrims to contact authorized Hajj organizers as soon as possible for their registration. Additionally, it has been emphasized that each pilgrim must travel from the airport assigned to their designated Hajj guide.
Hajj is the sacred pilgrimage performed by Muslims, that includes observation of certain rituals and takes place at the holy mosque of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is one of the five pillars of Islam, that requires every Muslim at least once in their lifetime to attend. This year it is reported to hold from 4th June to 9th June depending on the sighting of the moon.
