Gazelle FA has climbed to top of the Cameroonian first division. The team from Garoua, ranked second at the end of matchday 7, displaced Colombe du Dja et Lobo after their 2-0 victory over Stade Renard de Melong on Wednesday afternoon. Gazelle FA are continuing their steady rise to prominence this season and are proving to be unstoppable. Following a triumph of 4-1 over YOSA on Matchday 7 the team has now recorded their fifth win of the season.
The match between Stade Renard and Gazelle was highly anticipated in Melong on Wednesday. At kick-off, the host Stade Renard went straight into the match with the aim of taking an early lead, however Gazelle, with their wealth of experience and energy, neutralised their effort. Stade Renard’s momentum was halted in the 17th minute when young Marius Kalgong Kada opened the goal for Gazelle (0-1). Despite Stade Renard’s efforts to equalise, it proved to be a very difficult task. And finally their hopes were completely crushed in the 80th minute when Mael Fernandez scored the second goal.
This victory propels Gazelle FA to the top of the table, though tied with the same number of points as Colombe du Sud, but with a goal difference of +12. Stade Renard will need a win this weekend to regain the top spot.
