Nigeria : Pastor allegedly kills wife in Delta State

A Nigerian pastor identified David Favour Love has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife Mrs Shimite Bello Love (née Nwakalo),who was special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export.

A suspected case of femicide has sparked a conversation on domestic violence in the Nigerian cyber space. The sudden death of Mrs Shimite on Easter Sunday under unclear circumstances that suspect the husband of having a hand in it, has sent shockwaves across the country at large. According to a report by Sahara Reporters, Shimite allegedly died of poisoning and was foaming from her mouth when she was found by a family member. She was immediately rushed to the hospital but was unfortunately declared dead on arrival. Due to the suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, Late Mrs Shimite’s family reportedly had her husband who is a pastor arrested.

A close family source told Sahara Reporters that Shimite had been in good health the day before her death and had spoken to a relative for over an hour on Saturday. However, Easter Sunday took a different turn when the same family member received no reply to their messages, which was unlike her prompting concern. The situation became more tensed when Shimite’s maid reportedly called the deceased elder brother, expressing fear after the husband allegedly locked her in the house throughout the day. Shimite’s brother rushed to her house but saw her in the pitrifying state but she didn’t leave to tell the story of what happened when they arrived the hospital.The same source revealed the police was immediately called and arrested the husband.

The husband is seen as a prime suspect in the case because family members of Shimite claim the deceased husband had been gradually isolating her from loved ones to the extend of preventing family members from visiting their home. They equally allege he had intense control over her life and movements, with claims that she was either hypnotised or manipulated as he had all the name of her properties changed to his.

Her death is currently under investigation, and her remains have been deposited in the mortuary pending autopsy and further inquiries.
