Paul Biya authorises a $26 billion loan agreement with the AfDB

The funds are designated to finance the development of access roads to the port area of Kribi, as outlined in a presidential decree signed on Tuesday 14 January 2025.

In a decree signed on Tuesday 14 January 2025, President Paul Biya authorised the Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT), Alamine Ousmane Mey, to sign a loan agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) for an amount of 39.629 million euros, equivalent to 26 billion CFA francs, for the funding of the second phase of the Kribi Port Industrial Zone Access Roads Development Project. The aim of this project is to help improve the transport system in the country by optimising the operation of the Kribi Industrial Port Complex and promoting regional integration in Central Africa.

Article 1 of the presidential decree signed on 14 January 2025 states: “The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development is authorised, with power to delegate, to sign a loan agreement with the African Development Bank (AfDB) for an amount of 39.629 million euros, equivalent to aapproximately 26 billion CFA francs, to finance the second phase of the Kribi Industrial Port Zone Access Roads Development Project.”
