Pedestrian fatally struck by a cargo trian in Yaounde

The tragedy occurred on Tuesday 14 January 2025 at 9.42am, when an unidentified man was fatally struck and killed by a cargo train at the Obobogo level crossing.

According to the preliminary findings of the investigation contained in Camrail’s press release, the victim whose identity remains unknown, was sitting on the railway track at a curve when the train approached. Despite the driver’s repeated horns after noticing the man, the accident was unavoidable.

CAMRAIL’s General Management has expressed its heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and has highlighted the importance of complying with railway safety rules, urging the public to avoid sitting or lying on the tracks and to approach level crossing with caution.

The General Management of CAMRAIL informs the public and the media that an individual was fatally struck by a cargo train on Tuesday 14 January 2025 at 9.42 am near the Obobogo level crossing in Yaoundé.

Initial indications are that the man, whose identity remains unknown, was sitting on the railway track at a curve. Unfortunately, the repeated honking by the driver who noticed the man’s presence late was not enough to prevent the worst from happening.

CAMRAIL’s General Management extends its sincere condolences to the family of the victim. Expressing regret over the tragic loss of life and it’s consequences, CAMRAIL confirmed that the victim’s body has been transferred to the Yaoundé Central Hospital morgue and an investigation is underway by the relevant authorities.

This is a reminder that it is neither safe to sit or lie on the rails, nor is it advisable to disregard safety measures when crossing them.

CAMRAIL calls for public cooperation in ensuring safety and remains committed to fulfilling it’s mission under optimal safety conditions.
