Professor Jean Bahebeck is the new candidate announced for the 2025 presidential election in Cameroon. Lebledparle.com learnt, the doctor specialised in surgery was nominated by his party members on Wednesday 15 January, during the proceedings of the inclusive Steering Committee of the Union of the Peoples of Cameroon (UPC), held in Bafoussam.
According to the information from these proceedings, the well-known Cameroonian politician was selected from a pool of 12 other candidates. Among the 139 section presidents present, the professor of medicine secured 27 citations which was the highest putting him in first place. He was followed by Baleguel Nkot with 22 citations, Michel Eclador PEKOUA with 21 citations and finally Robert BAPOOH Lipot with 20 citations.
Several candidates announced
While several sources suggests that the Cameroonian presidential election could take place ond 18 October, several candidates have already announced their candidacy in the race for the Etoudi Palace. Among them are Cabral Libii of the PCRN; Joshua Osih of SDF; and Maurice Kamto representing the APC coalition. Other figures, such as Christian Ntimbane Bomo and Akere Muna, are also part of the electoral landscape. The outgoing President, Paul Biya, who is 92 years old and 43 years in power, is also expected to seek reelection as the “natural candidate” of the ruling CPDM party.
