The Governor of the West region in a press release informed the population that a certain Nosso Clifford, a detainee at the Bafoussam Central Prison, aged 23, escaped from the Bafoussam Regional Hospital on February 8, 2025, where he had been receiving treatment since January 10, 2025, for human rabies. Clifford, who was imprisoned for stealing a dog, had managed to flee in the early hours of Saturday, prompting an urgent public alert.
The press release described Clifford as dangerous, stating that he showed all the symptoms of rabies: aggression, hypersalivation, and barking. Authorities warned the public to avoid him and inform the police or health centers in case of any sightings. Given the severity of rabies, his escape was considered as a great health threat to the community.
Below is the press release issued by the governor:

However, news reaching our team from Cameroon News Agency reports that Clifford has been apprehended. Details about the way he was arrested have not been revealed, but he is likely to be taken back to the hospital.
This incident has raised concerns about hospital security when dealing with prisoners. In the wake of the information on his escape, citizens called for increased vigilance to ensure that such incidents would not happen in the future. The authorities are likely to tighten up hospital security and possibly meet persons who may have come in contact with Clifford during his freedom.
Rabies remains a deadly disease, requiring immediate medical intervention. The public is advised to report any stray animals and seek urgent medical care if bitten or exposed to suspicious symptoms.
