Raw chemicals for improvised explosive devices seized in Idenau

Authorities in Idenau, Southwest Cameroon, have seized various chemical precursors commonly used in the production of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

An operation carried out by the Commercial Customs Brigade of Idenau during a physical inspection of cargo being offloaded from an artisanal boat onto a truck within the port area led to the successful seizure of a huge quantity of raw chemicals that are used in the production of explosive devices. Though the exact nature of the seized chemical substances were not disclosed, they are said to be key ingredients in the production of homemade explosives. With the recurrence of IED’s that have been reported in the anglophone regions it has raised concerns about possible terrorist activities in the region.

According to reports, customs officials have not made any arrests and an investigation is in progress to trace its origin and the intended destination of the chemical, as well as to identify those involved in the shipping of these sensitive materials.
