Reconstruction of the Dschang cliff announced by the Government

The government has announced plans to rehabilitate the Dschang cliff. The information was made known in a release made public on February 18, where it stated a new design to the construction will be incorporated to avoid landslide.

Dschang cliff, an area prone to landslides and the site of many fatal accidents, saw a major collapse on November 5, 2024. This landslide buried a section of the regional road, leading to the deaths of over 12 people and disrupting traffic between Dschang and Santchou.

Following this incident, the government, through the Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, has announced the reconstruction of the road. The information in contained in a release issued on 18th February. According to the release a new design will be incorporated which includes a drainage system and a hydraulic structure which will manage rainwater and prevent future landslides.

However, pending reconstruction, travelers are recommended toq continue using the Molong-Kekem-Bafang-Bandja-Bandjoun section of National Road No. 5, where improvements are ongoing. The minister has urged residents to help preserve hydraulic structures, so as to ensure proper water evacuation. In the release, he equally assured the public that the selected company’s expertise will confirm quality work.

With preparatory work on site, full reconstruction will commence after the validation of execution studies conducted by the company in charge, restoring safe and faster travel between Dschang and Santchou.
