Serious accident in Yaounde leaves several injured after a violent collision

A road accident occurred this Sunday in Longkak, near the Collège de la Retraite. A personal vehicle, travelling at high speed, collided violently with a taxi that had just dropped off a passenger. The force of the impact caused the taxi to summersault before coming to a stop with all four wheels in the air.

A number of people were seriously injured in Yaoundé on Sunday as a result of a traffic accident that took place on Sunday 12 January 2025, in the Longkak neighbourhood, at Descente du collège de la Retraite. According to Crtv Yaoundé FM 94, a personal vehicle travelling at high speed collided violently with a taxi trying to drop off a passenger in the area.

The occupants of both vehicles were seriously injured and were quickly taken to Yaoundé Central Hospital. The driver of the vehicle responsible of the accident fled the scene, leaving behind a damaged vehicle and victims in distress. Police arrived on the scene shortly after the accident and carried out the usual checks. An investigation has been launched which will definitely will help to track down the driver who escaped.

For several months now, the national road network has been plagued by numerous accidents, bringing grief to many families in Cameroon. Poor road conditions, speeding, failure to comply with the highway code and driving under the influence of alcohol are among the main causes of road accidents in Cameroon.

The relevant authorities and road users are being urged to exercise caution and responsibility.
