Two fires erupt in one evening in Bamenda

The city of Bamenda experienced two separate fires on the evening of Wednesday, January 8, 2025, causing significant material losses and exposing the vulnerabilities of the region’s emergency response systems.

incendies

The first incident occurred in the Tar Longla area, where the home of a man identified as Mr. Polycap was completely destroyed. Thanks to the quick intervention of neighbors and passersby, the fire was contained, preventing further destruction. The exact cause of the blaze remains unknown at this time.

Later that night, another fire broke out in the Commercial Avenue neighborhood, devastating electronics shops and office spaces. Witnesses reported that despite numerous calls for assistance, no firefighting units arrived, leaving residents to tackle the fire themselves. “We called repeatedly, but no one came,” one witness said. “We had to organize ourselves to save whatever we could.”

A clear reflection of resource scarcity

These back-to-back incidents sheds light on the challenges faced by residents of major cities in Cameroon when dealing with fire outbreaks. The lack of adequate equipment, trained personnel, and preventive measures continues to exacerbate the impact of such disasters.
